Putin addresses the Russian Parliament

Putin

On occasion I get a chill.  There is this one nurse who works down at the waterfront clinic who comes up on occasion to help out whenever we have a staffing issue.  Lately we have been agreeing more so than not.  He is the most liberal person I know and whenever we agree on anything, it gives me a chill.  This was no different.  It wasn’t that long ago we were threatening each other with Nuclear annihilation.  Now it seems that Putin is more in line with American values and common sense than we are.  He gives a speech and it rings more true than what Obama says it gives me a chill.   Who knew we’d be so off track in this country that Putin would sound right.

 Putin’s Speech on Feb. 04, 2013

Vladimir Putin, the Russian president, addressed the Duma, (Russian Parliament), and gave a speech about the tensions with minorities in Russia:

“In Russia live Russians. Any minority, from anywhere, if it wants to live in Russia, to work and eat in Russia, should speak Russian, and should respect the Russian laws.  If they prefer Sharia Law, then we advise them to go to those places where that’s the state law.  Russia does not need minorities.  Minorities need Russia, and we will not grant them special privileges, or try to change our laws to fit their desires, no matter how loud they yell ‘discrimination’.  We better learn from the suicides of America, England, Holland and France, if we are to survive as a nation.  The Russian customs and traditions are not compatible with the lack of culture or the primitive ways of most minorities.  When this honorable legislative body thinks of creating new laws, it should have in mind the national interest first, observing that the minorities are not Russians.

The politicians in the Duma gave Putin a five minute standing ovation.

I too have to stand and give him credit.  At least he knows what is tearing America apart and he knows what unifies a country.

“Obama Sues For Discrimination”

Obama2

This story struck a chord with me.  My brother in law is a manager of a Dollar General store in Mobile,  Alabama.  He has run into a lot of hoopla with applicants in his travels.

So, according to our all wise and powerful President, what did the Dollar General company and BMW corporation both do in the means of “discrimination” that was  so horribly that it gained the attention of the White House? They ran criminal background checks on all of the people who applied for work with them.

Really? That’s considered discrimination?

The Obama administration says yes – because so many black applicants now a days have criminal records.  So that makes it totally racist!

I mean,  why would you hire a person at a daycare if he had done time in prison for child abuse?  This silly notion of trying to find out if someone who wants to work for you would also want to steal from you might seem like common sense to most of us.  To do a background check seems to be common sense to most of us.

An employer might want to know if the applicant has a tendency to become violent with co-workers, or sell drugs on your property. I guess that this is no longer acceptable; not if the applicants are black. I guess it’s OK if they are some other color.

The Obama administration is suing Dollar General and a BMW facility in South Carolina for the alleged unfair use of criminal background checks for job applicants, months after warning companies about how such screenings can discriminate against African Americans.

The suits were filed by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, which last year issued new guidelines that cautioned against rejecting minority applicants who have committed a crime and recommended businesses eliminate policies that “exclude people from employment based on a criminal record.”

The suits have re-ignited concerns over such issues as potential federal overreach, the overlap of state and federal law and companies losing their rights to protect customers, workers and assets while trying to adhere to fair hiring practices.”

Bacon-Pecan Pie

bacon pie

This is not my usual, but hay, I’m sick to death of all the politics and the stories of killing of Trayvon.   I found this the other day.  My in-laws were in this week visiting and I thought I’d experiment with them.  Although this pie probably has the ability to shorten anyone’s lifespan by many months by just looking at it,  but it was soooo good.  I just had to spread the evil and share it with the whole world.

This recipe came with a crust recipe. But if you’re a practiced baker, you already have your favorite go-to crust recipe. And if you aren’t, get a pre-made crust. Trust me, much easier and just as good.

 For the filling

8 large egg yolks
1 tsp. pure vanilla extract
2/3 cup packed light brown sugar
4 oz. (1/2 cup) unsalted butter, cut into 4 pieces
1/2 cup cane syrup
1/2 cup heavy cream
1/4 tsp. kosher salt
1-1/2 cups pecan halves, toasted, cooled, and coarsely chopped
1/3 cup crumbled cooked bacon (3 or 4 strips) or more to taste

Make the filling

Put the egg yolks in a medium heatproof bowl set on a kitchen towel and add the vanilla. Combine the sugar, butter, cane syrup, cream, and salt in a 1-quart sauce-pan. Heat over medium heat just until the butter is melted and the mixture is hot but not boiling, 3 to 5 minutes. Whisking vigorously and constantly, very slowly pour the hot sugar mixture into the yolks. Strain through a fine strainer set over a 1-quart measuring cup.

Fill and bake the pie

Tip:

Pour the filling over the pecans in a slow, spiral motion; if you go too fast, the pecans may move, leaving gaps in the finished pie.

Spread the pecans evenly in the piecrust. Sprinkle the crumbled bacon evenly over the pecans. Slowly pour the filling over the pecans. Put the pie on the baking sheet and bake until the center of the pie is slightly firm to the touch and the filling doesn’t wobble when the pie is nudged, 35 to 40 minutes at 400 degrees. Let cool for at least 1 hour before serving.

Stand Your Ground

I got home today and on every channel is people talking about the unfairness about the Travon Martin decision.  I thought it was over.  Then I turned to CNN and our President weighed in on the topic.  What he said made me angry.  He said that they would work repealing the stand your ground law because it was wrong,  blah, blah.  I hope he knows what he’s doing.

African Americans benefit from Florida’s Stand Your Ground self-defense law at a rate far out of proportion to their presence in the states population, despite an assertion by Attorney General Eric Holder that repealing Stand Your Ground would help African Americans.

Black Floridians have made about a third of the states total Stand Your Ground claims in homicide cases, a rate nearly double the black percentage of Florida’s population. The majority of those claims have been successful, a success rate that exceeds that for Florida whites.

Nonetheless, prominent African Americans including Holder and Ebony and Ivory singer Stevie Wonder, who has vowed not to perform in the Sunshine State until the law is revoked, have made Stand Your Ground a central part of the Trayvon Martin controversy.

But approximately one third of Florida Stand Your Ground claims in fatal cases have been made by black defendants, and they have used the defense successfully 55 percent of the time, at the same rate as the population at large and at a higher rate than white defendants, according to a Daily Caller analysis of a database maintained by the Tampa Bay Times.  Additionally, the majority of victims in Florida Stand Your Ground cases have been white.

African Americans used Stand Your Ground defenses at nearly twice the rate of their presence in the Florida population, which was listed at 16.6 percent in 2012.

I wonder what will happen when Eric Holder finally get their way with repealing the “stand your ground law”.  They don’t seem to understand that repealing this law will be very bad news for blacks in America.   Because almost twice the number of black Americans use the “stand your ground law” as a defense for shooting a villain than whites, there will be almost twice the number of blacks as whites that will be heading off to jail!  I wonder what these activists will say to that.

Strange Day in Urology

Lumber

Work today was very interesting.  Today I worked with an old guy who claimed to be retiring.  I believe that he is trying to cut back.  I mean his work is getting more sporadic… but retire,  I don’t really think so.  Dr. Frank’s specialty is vasectomy reversal.  He is the only guy in the area that can to this type of micro surgery.  Because this procedure is not covered by any insurance what so ever, he works diligently to cut expenses whenever possible.  All patients must pay “out of pocket” for this to be done.  And if Dr. Frank can do it for less,  then all the better.  One of the cost cutting measures is to do away with the Anesthesiologist.  Instead, we have “nurse sedation” for this procedure.  Instead of being totally asleep and out of it for this procedure,  a registered nurse with training in sedation, gets the patient in a state of “don’t give a care in the world”  for the procedure.  That nurse is usually me.     The typical day is as soon as the patient is off to sleep, Dr. Frank starts in on me with whatever current event that he feels might tweak me.  Dr.  Frank is extremely liberal and I’m not.  Also,  the typical patient for this procedure is an older man who has hit his mid life crisis, divorced his wife of 20 plus years, and has hooked up with a 20 something hottie.  The new hottie wants a baby to seal the deal and that’s where we come in.

Today was everything but typical.  My interview found that the patient was a 27 year old guy who was still married to his first wife.  They both wanted a baby and they both had gone to a fertility specialist who concluded that due to a childhood accident, he had a stricture causing an inadequate sperm count.  We were going to do some revisions to his plumbing and bypass the narrow area so he could once again shoot live ammo.   I was a little jazzed that we were not doing the typical vaso-procedure.

Once I got the patient off to sleep, Dr. Frank started in,  “hey, I heard you sold your house… don’t you live way out in the boonies?”   I looked up from my monitors,  “yep,  it’s sold… and I lived in St. Helens.  I don’t think that classifies as ‘the boonies’ in my book.”  He looked confused, “but you have acreage, I mean lots of land, why are you moving?  It would be stupid to move away from that.”   I started to explain, “well, I’ve had some health problems and my wife is worried about the up-keep if I were to suddenly kack off.”   He continued,  “well, at least I would cut the timber before I left.  I mean, that’s money.  I wouldn’t just let that go with the house. Harvest the wealth of your property before moving on.”   I was quiet for a minute as I thought to where he could possibly be going with this conversation.  “You want me to cut down all  the trees?”  He looked back over his glasses,  “Duh, yea… I think he’s gettin’ it.  They’re your trees, for goodness sake and they’re worth a lot of money.”  I couldn’t believe where this was going.  I was actually arguing with this guy from the liberal side.  “I can’t cut the trees no matter what they are worth,”  I jabbed back.  “Well, that’s just stupid”  he responded.  I thought a minute before saying.  “Dr. Frank,  I’m not exactly a tree hugger activist, by a long shot,  but I can’t bear to cut trees down just for the sake of cutting trees.  To me, it’s morally and ethically wrong, cut old growth trees  even if they are on my property and they are indeed worth a lot of cash.  I feel that those trees are many times more valuable to the environment than they could possibly be to my short-term financial gain… and to cut them down is stupid.”   He glared back, “Hmmph”  and was quiet for most of the rest of the case.

I thought that this is indeed going to be an interesting day.

It makes me wonder how liberals claim to “help the poor”  by raising everyone’s taxes for more failed social programs and at the same time show so much obvious selfishness.   When the social programs fail and the environmental stop gap measures fail, they still,  somehow lay all the blame on the Conservatives.  Strange.

Can You Tell The Difference Between These Two?

Other than the facts that in one case the Justice Department sent people to stir up racial animus before the trial, Serial race baiters Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, Van Jones, Tavis Smiley, Barack Obama, etc., also stirred up discontent and violence, and the news media finished the job – in only one case.

In the other case the shooter was arrested and the boy’s family and community lived with the quiet grief of their loss.

The shooting death of unarmed white South Carolina teen Marley Lion has drawn comparisons on the Internet to the similar killing of unarmed black teen Trayvon Martin after a Charleston woman made an illustration to highlight Marley’s case.

Lizz O’Neill of James Island, S.C., said she used the comparison photo to highlight what she called the senseless killings of youth and was not viewing Lion’s alleged murder at the hands of three black men as a racially motivated crime.

“I wanted to make the point that lives are lost every day. Some are nationally recognized and some never make it past the local news,” O’Neill told the Charleston Post and Courier. “Every life, in my opinion, deserves the same recognition despite race or circumstances.”

Obama-Care

Today I had a patient who was talking about “Obama Care” insurance.  He went on about the expectations and what he “just can’t wait to get once the plan takes effect.”   I know that there has been a lot of debate and hand-wringing going on about the new health plan.  The Conservatives are down in the dumps and the Liberals are ecstatic over their claim of a new “single payer system.”    I feel that the whole thing is bad because,  I am a Libertarian first.  I know that once the federal government becomes the “health insurance provider” for everyone,  things will most definitely change.  We’ve seen the tip of the iceberg in New York with mayor Bloomberg.  He has restricted smoking, fatty foods and,  most notably, large sugary carbonated drinks.  The liberals can’t understand that nothing is free.  Because the government is paying for the insurance, the government will also look for ways to reduce cost.  There will certainly be strings attached and the payment will be your individual freedoms.  I don’t drink “big gulp” drinks… but if I wanted to have one,  I don’t want any government bureaucrat telling me that I can’t.  It’s my freedom,  dammit.

In the same vein, my patient was talking about his “right to get care and to choose his doctor.”  I beg to differ.  I don’t really care one way or the other about Obama-Care.  I mean that I don’t access the system that often.  The liberals are going on about “death panels” and how much better the “Canadian  system” is over the health care in America. Well, in Canada,  because the government pays for the care, they actually do have death panels.  There is only so much health care dollars to go around.  So when they look at who gets care and who doesn’t, they take into account who actually pays into the system and who doesn’t.  A tax payer with a full time job will get health care priority over, say,  any indigent, anyone on welfare, anyone who is unemployed, and anyone who is retired.  I don’t like it, but that is simply the way it is.

If this is soon to be the law if the land,  I’m willing to accept it, but I ask myself, are the Liberals really ready to accept this new health care plan?    I don’t think so… but then it’s too late.  Just ask the Canadians.  One thing that I am confident of, and that is everyone, Liberals and Conservatives alike, have no idea of what is coming down the pike in the way of government sponsored healthcare.

Oh well, I accidentally missed “hump day humor yesterday, so here you go.   For a little bit of levity,  I’ve got the top ten signs that your employer has changed to the new Obama health care plan:

(10) Your annual breast exam is done at Hooters.

(9) Directions to your doctor’s office include “Take a left when you enter the trailer park.”

(8) The tongue depressors taste faintly of Fudgesicles.

(7) The only proctologist in the plan is “Gus” from Roto-Rooter.

(6) The only item listed under Preventative Care Coverage is “an apple a day.”

(5) Your primary care physician is wearing the pants you gave to Goodwill last month.

(4) “The patient is responsible for 200% of out-of-network charges,” and this is not a typographical error.

(3) The only expense covered 100% is…. “Embalming.”

(2) Your Prozac comes in different colors with little M’s on them.

AND THE NUMBER ONE SIGN YOU’VE JOINED OBAMA’S HEALTH CARE PLAN: (1) You ask for Viagra, and they give you a Popsicle stick and duct tape.

Classic Rock

classic2

All week, I’ve had my car radio  tuned to 106.7 FM.  It’s a classic rock station here in Portland.  I rarely listen to that stuff anymore.  Now –a-days I listen to conservative talk radio or, if I do music, I plug in my (non-Apple product), I-Pod for my own custom special music list.  I mean, seriously. The “classic rock” radio stations all have the exact same  playlist since about 1983, and the exact same disc jockeys with the exact same voices, all around the country. I’d love to be a program director at one of those stations: Yeah,  just keep playing the same hundred songs we’ve been playing for the past quarter-century. …And I’m going out to play a round of golf.  But I’ll be damned if this stuff doesn’t sound really good again.  Maybe  that ten-year break purged me? AC/DC, Tom Petty, Pink Floyd, Foreigner, Ted Nugent… It’s like Mom’s pot roast at this point.  It must be some sort of “getting grounded” once again.  I mean, I sold my house without any planned place to go.  We flopped into a crappy apartment for about four weeks with nothing more than my cat and a coffee cup.  We bought another house, in town,  hired a moving crew, and moved into it.  And let’s not forget about the inspection thing at work all last week.  It sorta all piled up and I don’t think I’m over it.  And maybe its cumulative,  I don’t know.  I was getting away from current events and the anger of talk radio and all the war and hardship happening around the world and back to good times… my high school and college years.  I can venture back to those days every time one of those songs starts up.  Each song makes me think of what I was doing at that time.

It’s funny because today, I was assigned to an ENT room.  Once the surgeon got underway, she said, “hey, how about some music?”  I said, “like, what do you want to hear… I mean,  I can play anything, I’ve got my harmonica.”  She glared, “not funny… how about just classic rock?”  I had to laugh, yeah, I’m listening to that old station with all the old tunes and lovin’ it.

Friend over for Dinner

wife2

As a disclaimer, and in case my wife ever reads anything I write on this website… this doesn’t relate to anything I do or say in my own home.  My life and marrage is totally perfect… O.K.  honey?  This is pure humor… honest.  This is a joke and I got it totally from a friend at work. So relax.

A man brings his best buddy back home for dinner.

His wife screams at him, “What, you have company?

My hair & makeup are not done,

the house is a mess, the dishes are not done, I’m still in

my pajamas & I’ve already cleaned the kitchen.

I can’t be bothered with cooking tonight!!!

What the heck did you bring him around for… Hey is that beer I smell?”

“Cause he’s thinking of getting married.”

How to be a Liberal

you-cant-explain-that-8

You have to believe the AIDS virus is spread by a lack of funding.

You have to be against capital punishment, but for abortion on demand, protecting the guilty and killing the innocent.

You have to believe that the same public school teacher who can’t teach 4th graders how to read is totally qualified to teach those same kids about sex.

You have to believe that trial lawyers are selfless heroes and doctors are overpaid charlatans

You have to believe that guns in the hands of law-abiding Americans are more of a threat than nuclear weapons in the hands of radical Muslims.

You have to believe that global temperatures are less affected by cyclical, documented changes in the Sun, and more affected by SUVs.

You have to believe that gender roles are artificial but being gay is natural.

You have to believe that a business creates oppression and restrictive governments create prosperity.

You have to believe that hunters don’t care about nature, but animal rights activists who’ve never been outside Seattle do.

You have to believe that self-esteem is more important than actually doing something to earn it.

You have to believe there can be no art without federal funding.

You have to believe that taxes are too low but ATM fees are too high.

You have to believe that Harriet Tubman, Cesar Chavez, and Gloria Steinem are more important to American history than Thomas Jefferson, George Washington or Thomas Edison.

You have to believe that standardized tests are racist, but affirmative action and racial quotas aren’t.

You have to believe that second-hand smoke is more dangerous than HIV and unprotected sex.

You have to believe that all conservatives are racists, and all black people couldn’t make it without your help.

A bunch of these were sent to me by my slightly conservative sister.  If you have more, feel free to e-mail them to me and I’ll put then up!
