Billy Graham

Not to get too political, but Billy Graham passed away. He was one of the greatest evangelists in history.  He has preached to over 200 million people and his simple message of  John 3:16

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

And because of this simple message about salvation, he is responsible for bringing millions of people, once considered lost to salvation.

He was a great man. For what he has done, there was only one American President who attended his funeral. To me, this says a lot about our leadership and the type of people we had in charge for so many years prior to our current President.

Satan is still at work…

The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn’t exist. Roger “Verbal” Kint -The Usual Suspects

Though we are children of God, we must be careful that we are not acting as tools for the adversary. We must be careful in our actions as we go about our daily business, as our personal pride and human nature often work against us. Many well-meaning people, even good Christians, push people away from the light and truth of the Lord, becoming stumbling blocks to the future and progress of otherwise good people.

We are warned about this throughout the Bible, even Adam and Eve, literal decedents of God who knew him directly, were tricked by the adversary into subverting God’s Commandment. From the literal beginning of mankind, the righteous have been led astray by the Adversary, and will though well-meaning lead others away from following God’s path. As we are taught in 2 Corinthians 11:3 “But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent’s cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ.”

We have the bad habit of Judgement, boiling people down into one trait, or dismissing them because of some aspect or sin, forgetting that we are all sinners and fulfilling the words in Proverbs 30:12 “There is a kind who is pure in his own eyes, Yet is not washed from his filthiness.” None of us will make it into heaven by merit of our righteousness, and much of that self-righteous, often hypocritical sense of superiority is one of the many ways in which good Christians can push people from God. We are taught to live a Christ-like life, and far from being self-righteous, or superior, Christ was a humble servant. We are further taught in Romans 2:23-24 that this sense of superiority, and self-righteous hypocrisy damages the faithful, and has worked to negate and trivialize the Lords name: “You who boast in the law, do you dishonor God by breaking the law? As it is written: “God’s name is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you.”

Many will justify their misguided actions and their proud lifestyle because they read the scriptures and go to church. Even defending many of their hurtful and deeply hypocritical behaviors with poorly translated or out of context scriptures, in this it is important to remember “The Devil is a better theologian than any of us and is a devil still.” Aiden Wilson Tozer. The Adversary is very good at his job and it is likely a great victory to him every time a misguided person uses the Lord’s Book to push people closer to the Adversary.

We must remember that it is our duty to uplift and support good people wherever we find them, and that only God can judge. We can use discernment as a tool to avoid situations that threaten our wellbeing, either spiritually or physically, but it is not our place to condemn others.

We must also remember the times in our own lives when we were doing our best and just needed a little bit of help or support from those around us, but never got it. Each day someone is in that position. Each day, there is someone struggling who just needs that little bit of support. Many of us know the hurt of being left to struggle alone. There will be many times in life where the opportunity is there to offer the support that wasn’t there for you when you needed it. We must take those opportunities to build up those around us. We may know what it is like to suffer, but when it is within your power to protect another from that suffering, you have the chance to make a difference. We must be the change we wish to see in the world, it begins with us.
